PayForum 2025 was held on March 20 in Kyiv. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Association of Fintech and Innovation Companies.
Valeriy Siroshtan, CEO of RENOME SMART, participated in the panel discussion “QR payments. Future or necessity?” within the forum’s framework. The participants discussed whether QR payments can compete with payment cards, given that businesses are increasingly using this technology.
“QR is not a replacement for cards, but rather an alternative to acquiring and a way to pay for services or goods conveniently. At the same time, usability is key here. I think that in terms of user experience, QR is inferior to card payments. Although in certain segments such payments can be very convenient. For example, in the restaurant business, and HoReCa in general, QR payments have become part of the ecosystem, which, in addition to paying the bill itself, also includes the menu and the ability to leave a tip. This also includes transportation. But the key is consumers and their convenience, the success or failure of QR payments will depend on their perception.” – Valeriy Siroshtan, CEO of RENOME SMART.
The participants in the discussion agreed that QR payments are unlikely to “absorb” the market, but rather will become another technology, an element of access to payments and services. Moreover, security and user training issues are still open in this field.
